Our Story

womensemble was concieved in 2015 by Helen Cuinn as an agency for positive support for female playwrights. We believe this will have a knock on effect of supporting and encourging other female theatre artists.

Born out of playwrighting schemes promoting women in the Tron 100 theatre collective in Glasgow, womensemble comes about as a direct response to the lack  of female playwrights heard in our theatres. Rather than complain about this lack of representation in writing (also in the directing, acting and designing of these worlds), we want to commit an action that will have an impact. So we have started a database of women working in theatre and will shortly begin a series of monthly playreading events - reading a wide range of plays by women, local and global.

Men are more than welcome to attend as observers at these events, but the reading of the work and the ensuing discussions will be by the female particiants only.

For more info, or to add your name to the database and keep abreast of the upcoming events, email womensemble@gmail.com
